A thru J bring refreshments
The program for the February
meeting of the Central Michigan Lapidary & Mineral Society will
focus on Flint and a nearby source of excellent Flint, Newark and Flint
Ridge, Ohio. There will be a slide presentation on Flint as a material
and on the area of Ohio around Flint Ridge. Members of the Society who
have specimens of Flint, whether "raw" or worked into tools are
encouraged to bring them to the February meeting. We will have a table
with Flint specimens, and a VHS tape on flint knapping, which will run
after the slide presentation. Flint is the stone tool material that won

If people are interested , there is a great Flint Festival
In Flint Ridge Ohio during Labor Day weekend Sept 2-4. This is a trip that should appeal to both the mineral and lapidary people since the flint beds often contain vugs lined with quartz crystals and sometimes have barite and calcite crystals. The Flint Ridge flint is well known for its lapidary qualities and is the state gem of Ohio. The Lithographic Society is sponsoring a large flint knapping show at the Flint Ridge Park and Museum. This event attracts master flint knappers from all over the country who will be demonstrating their ancient art of making flint arrow and spear points and other tools. Roger and Lee Laylin are willing to lead a trip
if any one is interested.
